Fashionistas Become Auctionistas

The past decade has seen radical growth in the fashion industry worldwide, with web portals allowing fashionistas to essentially order clothes straight from the runways. Still, somehow, vintage fashion has long been held hostage from the rest of the world by stylists and collectors in the few capitals where boutiques even exist.

While presenting their newest collections, the major fashion houses are returning to honor the heritage from which they came with Gucci opening a Museum in the center of Florence and Hermes' ad campaign highlighting the date of their establishment "contemporary artisans since 1837". The success of the Costume Institute's Gala, in collaboration with Vogue, and the epic Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art have broadened the presentation of fashion as a living art form to the wider public. And so men and women everywhere have embraced the idea that fashion is art that you wear, an opportunity for individual self-expression; anyone can be an artist, every day, any day, an idea further reinforced by renowned bloggers such as The Sartorialist or Face Hunter.

And so the moment is right for this niche market to be brought out to the fashion-lovers everywhere who would like to source rare pieces from the comfort of their homes. Auctionata, the first online real-time auction house announces the launch of their newest division: Vintage Couture and Accessories. Fashionistas must now become Auctionistas to participate in Auctionata's curated, concise auctions featuring the world's premier vintage boutiques and private collections.

The inaugural auction, which will take place on October 18, 2011 will offer 65 vintage handbags with designer labels such as Hermes, Chanel, Prada, YSL, Gucci, and Judith Leiber to name a few, all without reserves. The category will continue to expand with plans for an exclusively Louis Vuitton auction followed by a vintage Chanel auction next on the calendar.

To take part in this women's coats groundbreaking event, register now at Auctionata

To Understand Today’s Crisis in News, Look to the Past: a Journalist-Historian Tells the History of American Journalism in a New Book

Is American journalism really in peril? A robust, unfettered press, free from government intrusion, has forever been emblematic of our liberties and a vital part of American life. In his fresh narrative, Covering America (University of Massachusetts Press, cloth, $49.95), journalist and professor Christopher B. Daly provides a lively, engaging history of journalism's 300-year evolution in America, offering valuable historical context to today's "journalism is in crisis" meme. The good news: today's surge in partisanship, rise of the blogosphere, and journalism's overall teetering business model are but the latest in a long history of challenges forcing American journalism to find new and better ways to adapt and thrive.

"Too many Americans today believe journalism is falling apart," says Daly, who teaches journalism and history at Boston University, after a career at both the Washington Post and Associated Press. "From colonial times onward, there have always been challenges to the structure and practice of producing the news in America. Today is no different. History provides perspective." Daly's original research and comprehensive synthesis of the latest historical scholarship provides it in spades.

Drawing on a wealth of examples, Daly explains that U.S. journalism went through periods of deep change in the 1830s and again in the 1920s—periods that were just as convulsive as today's. In Covering America, readers will find answers to their questions: Is serious journalism dying? Are the media "fai women's jackets r"? Is ownership too concentrated? Is the FCC too involved in regulating content? Covering America sets the stage for serious analysis—while making enjoyably vivid the often larger-than-life characters who have shaped and defined American journalism through the centuries.

Journalism, in the end, is the story of people. Daly colorfully details and provides insight into the lives of the practitioners of journalism, the men and women, who, through sheer force of their personalities, built and contributed to the institution that runs as a thread through the history of the republic. Covering America presents them all—in an accessible story-telling format that focuses on the visionary innovators, famous and not, who shaped the industry to their times by dint of their often oversized ambition and personalities: Benjamin Franklin, John and Anna Zenger, Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst, Nellie Bly, Ida Tarbell, Frederick Douglass, Kay Graham, Arianna Huffington, and more. Daly "adds shape and new understanding to the intriguing stories many of us know as myths of origin," says Douglas Cumming, author of The Southern Press: Literary Legacies and the Challenge of Modernity. The biographical portraits alone make Covering America a joy to read. "This is grand narrative as it should be," says historian Bruce Schulman.

Covering America is the work of an author wearing two hats—that of a veteran newsman and an academic scholar. Daly leverages primary material, including archival material, original documents, and recordings, along with personal experience, to provide brand new arguments on journalism across all of its platforms: newspapers, magazines, photos, radio, TV, and the Web. Whether focusing on media economics, the impact of new technologies, or the sociology and philosophy inherent in the journalistic enterprise, Daly manages a fine balance between scholarship and popular culture. This book will re-shape the discussion over the news media. A lively history of American journalism.

Read all about it!

"Essential reading for anyone who cares about American history, media, or culture. This is a great story about the entire tradition of journalistic storytelling, told smartly and thoroughly."
—Susan Orlean, staff writer for The New Yorker and author of Rin, Tin, Tin: The Life and the Legend and The Orchid Thief.

Tracyeinny, From Humble Beginnings to Leading Fashion Retailer In Singapore

A leading online fashion retailer based in Singapore, Tracyeinny has come a long way since its inception in 2007 when Jeannie Pang and Pamela Goi co-founded the company. The company started from a capital of $5000 and today, its monthly sales have crossed $100,000.

Over the last four years, Tracyeinny has successfully established itself as a trusted and reliable fashion brand that rolls out dozens of unique designs every week, offers a smooth online shopping experience and ships orders at a great speed. To add more, Tracyeinny is now a successful full fledged Ecommerce store with a physical presence – a rare example of successful online to retail expansion.

Tracyeinny set off with women's clothes and fashion accessories in the beginning but the company has now ventured into the shoes online market as well. Tracyeinny's first flagship store was opened in Chinatown in 2009 followed by the second outlet at Bishan Junction 8 two years later. According to the company founders, the stores were opened after repeat requests from loyal customers in Singapore.

In a recent interview with SGEntrepreneurs.com, the co-founder of Tracyeinny, Jeannie Pang said that their women apparel designs and themes got popular due to word-of-mouth and not because of expensive marketing campaigns. Jeannie said that the Tracyeinny website has attracted well over 1.9 million unique visitors till date. Highly targeted traffic in such large volumes has helped the founders to move forth at a great pace.

Tracyeinny has survived, and in fact, excelled in an extremely competitive environment where hundreds of blogshops exist in Singapore alone. Two cousins, Jeannie Pang and Pamela Goi set out to do something they really loved few years ago and today, results in terms of successful package delivery rate of 99 percent, website page views in millions and a positive brand perception are no doubt extraordinary.

Tracyeinny was awarded the prestigious Gold Category Award in the year 2010 for its distinctive service and rapidly increasing brand presence in online as well as offline circle. For a 3 years old startup company at that time, it was nothing short of a pleasant surprise and an inspiration to do 'more.'

The Tracyeinny has successfully made way for itself in the online fashion and style marketplace. Recently, the company began to offer savvy sales on weekly and monthly collections at http://www.tracyeinny.com.sg/. Women can do online shopping in Singapore or in any other part of the world can shop for the latest shoes and Maxi dress design arrivals from the comfort of their home at Tracyeinny.com.sg. For offline shopping, one can pay a visit to one of the two retail outlets of Tracyeinny in Singapore.

Jeannie is hopeful that Tracyeinny will someday expand its operations to South Eastern countries such as Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia. She recognized the fact that popularity of various trends over the next few years will decide whether Tracyeinny should venture into the South East or not. Although Tracyeinny has been getting customers from across the globe, she said that the company may need to launch a new website to cater to segmented audiences in new countries in the near futur women's coats e.

Many of the articles published in TSB's fashion section, both before and after the revamp, were penned by Melbourne-based journalist Natasha Abrahams, who also covers the entertainment scene in Australia for Weekendnotes. She brings a female's insight to men's fashion and covers topics that are related to regular everyday styles, not high-end fashions. Abrahams is slated to continue her column on TSB for the foreseeable future.

The revamped fashion section has joined the other men's interest departments on TSB. All departm women's coats ents are updated regularly, with most seeing several new articles per week.

Other profiles in Alpha Living feature people who are "self-made" and have started a major enterprise on their own and built it into a successful business on their own.

One of the most unique departments on TSB's site is entitled Inner Game. This section features articles about building confidence and mental strength and developing skills that can be applied in a variety of business and dating situations.
